Elon Musk wants to build a better future for Twitter.

But for the moment it seems there is much confusion on what Twitter will be.

A payment platform? A social network? A crypto wallet?

Let's see what's next...

One untold truth is that running a server costs money. Servers should be able to handle tousands and tousands concurring requests from users and uploading text, images and videos.

While you are using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok you are not directly paying money to them, but you're giving them your personal data and your attention on their ads.

That's how you pay them for offering you a “free” service.

When you are using Mastodon your personal information remain private and you will not be bombarded with ads.

But server admin needs money to run the service.

That's why it's a good practice to help funding those administrators with a donation.

The fediverse (a portmanteau of “federation” and “universe”) is an ensemble of federated (i.e. interconnected) servers that are used for web publishing (i.e. social networking, microblogging, blogging, or websites) and file hosting, but which, while independently hosted, can communicate with each other. — source: Wikipedia

Long time ago fediverse was quite small and with non-mature software. Now situation has evolved a lot and fediverse is bigger than you think.

Here below you will find some websites showing softwares and servers that are part of this decentralized world:

Social networks are the new place to be. For this reason you've to subscribe on social A, then on social B, then on social C in order not to miss your actual (or potential) contacts.

Living on a social network is like living in a rented house.

As you don't own the house, you don't own the social network.

So you're not free to do all what you prefer, you've to follow guidelines rules, policy changes and all that stuff that let you feel a host on that platform.

What about creating your personal website where your contacts can always be in touch with you without depending on specific external social network platforms?

With a personal website you're the king, you can express your creativity and decide how and what to share in a less stressed environment and without any constraint.

Yesterday we were able to meet face by face our friends after a very long time.

It was so nice and it reminded me another time that your real friends are friends forever, no matter how frequently you see them.

Last working week was very hard and I'm quite tired in these days.

Luckily during weekends I can have enough time to charge my batteries again to afford next challenges.

Here you can find some easy steps you can take toward being less influenced by filter bubbles.

  1. Use RSS to find new interesting content instead of relying on Google / Bing algorithms;
  2. Stop (or reduce) to use social networks;
  3. Use ad-blockers on your browser.

As I'm getting older I tend to appreciate more and more simple and essential things, both in life and technology.

Year after year I realized that tech companies tend to overcomplicate their products with tons of functionalities that only few people really use.

Selling a product as the best in the market is not enough if I've to spend months understanding how this product works.

A long learning curve will probably let those companies loose customers.

I've always been skeptical about all that crypto enthusiasm that lead us to a sort of a crypto bubble.

I'm not against Bitcoin or blockchain, but I'm aware that behind the scenes there is much more speculation than we think.

Technology may be good, but the way we use it may be bad.

Today I had a very wonderful day.

I walked a lot with my wife and we discovered a new beautiful itinerary.

I'm really happy of it.
